Requirements for Abstracts

The language of the conference is English, thus the abstracts and all presentations must be in English.

Please follow the guidelines provided below.

Abstract guidelines

  • The maximum length of an abstract is 400 words.
  • The mandatory sections of each abstract are:
  • Introduction - Question/Hypothesis - Method - Results - Discussion/Conclusion.

When the Scientific Committee evaluates the individual contributions, the quality, detailedness of an abstract, as well as the author's compliance with our guidelines will be taken in consideration. In case of empirical studies, it is mandatory to include the N (sample size) and the main P values of the most important results to the Results section. We do not recommend including references to the abstract, unless it is of paramount importance (e.g. your study is a replication of an earlier paper; or an application of a specific experimental paradigm etc). Please, throughout the abstract use SI units if necessary. Each contribution will be evaluated anonymously by two reviewers, and based on their recommendation the suitability of the contributions as oral, Pecha Kucha or poster presentation will be decided.

Each participant can upload maximum 2 abstracts.

Presentation formats

Regular oral presentation

Abstracts for oral presentations will be selected by the Organizing Committee based on the evaluation by the Scientific Committee and the Advisory Board. There are limited possibilities for oral presentations, therefore some abstracts submitted as an oral presentation may asked to be converted to Pecha Kucha or posters. (If you are unwilling to make a Pecha Kucha or Poster presentation please inform the Organizing Committee). The length of talks will be 12 minutes, plus 3 minutes for questions and discussion.

Pecha Kucha Talk

A Pecha Kucha is a style of presenting involving strict timings, with 20 slides, each lasting 20 seconds (total of 6 minutes 40 seconds). The constraints of the format encourage you to be concise, think about the narrative of your research, and to create an engaging presentation to encourage a dialogue (the term Pecha Kucha is Japanese for “the sound of conversation” or “chit chat”). You can download our power point template for a Pecha Kucha HERE. The slides are set to change every 20 seconds so all you need to do is add the content. When putting together your slides, remember to think visually, and use text in a minimal way. It’s a good idea to rehearse your presentation thoroughly to get the timings right.

Poster presentation

Posters will be displayed for three full days. Adhesive, etc. for poster affixation will be provided. Poster displays should be self-explanatory even in the absence of authors. Posters should not exceed a size of 85 cm (width) x 120 cm (height) (standard standing A0 format).
Poster presentation with poster teaser/Poster presentation with video abstract
To provide a more powerful impact for the authors of the posters as well as giving an easier chance to pick the 'must see' posters for the audience, at this conference it is recommended to present EITHER a short poster teaser talk OR video abstract connected to each poster. The Organizers will create a time slot for everyone who wish to provide a poster teaser or present a video abstract. Poster teaser talks are limited to 3 slides and 2 min. Video abstracts are limited to 2 min as well. Poster teasers/video abstracts will be scheduled between regular oral presentations in the program.

APPLIED ANIMAL BEHAVIOUR SCIENCE

Speaker 1

Proceedings of the 8th Canine Science Forum 2023 (Budapest, Hungary)

The overall purpose of the Canine Science Forum is to bring together scientists with different areas of expertise on Canines, who wish to share their research interests with fellow colleagues working on closely or more distantly related fields. The Proceedings in the journal Applied Animal Behaviour Science welcomes original research articles from the participants of the 8th CSF that focus on the behavioral phenotype of dogs and related Canid species from applied aspects.
All submissions should be based on research or theoretical material presented at the CSF-2023 Conference. Submitted manuscripts will go through the peer review process and upon acceptance will be published without delay. Submissions are welcome from 1st of March (2023) and the final manuscript submission deadline is the 15th of December, 2023. To ensure that all manuscripts are correctly identified for inclusion into the special issue, it is important that authors select VSI: Canine Science Forum 2023 when they reach the “Article Type” step in the submission process.
Any questions regarding the participation in the Proceedings, please send to Péter Pongrácz (Editor in Chief, AABS), peter[dot]pongracz[at]ttk[dot]elte[dot]hu
